San Marcos Pump Track

The girls and I have been going to the Pump Track in San Marcos lately. It’s rough, slippery, full of big cracks and pretty tight for a pump track, but it’s surprisingly still a lot of fun….

I told the girls if they raced around the park the winner could be DJ on the way home. It was a great race that started slow and picked up on the downgrade. they jockeyed for position, one overshot the second picnic table to catch up in the end, only to dodge when she should have weaved at the finish line.

We went by the park in San Marcos, but it was already so hot we decided to go to Five Mile Dam on the way home to cool off. I was dismayed to see all the development that has gone up around what was once a great swimming hole.

South of the River with Astra

Astra and I had a free Sunday morning alone so we decided to hit some of the skateparks south of the river. First stop was Mable Davis. The park has held up pretty well considering how long it has been around. It was empty with the exception of one older kid, we had the bowl to ourselves.

Mable2 Note to self, you should skate Mable Davis more.

Next up was Buda. It is just a street plaza and I don’t even really ollie, but it is still really a fun park with banks and transitions you can hit as you cruise though what is circular course.

Buda

The final spot we hit was San Marcos. It is one of our favorites. The park is nice with a small simple street section and a flow bowl that is easy for beginners and has some challenging features as well. Of course the beauty of the park is you can walk to the river from the skatepark or hit Five Mile dam on the way home. It was two cold to do either of these, so we just hit the square.

A few weeks ago Astra had a dance convention in Houston over the weekend. It turned out to be a great reason to visit Houston, we could drop in on Astra and see how she was doing and make a quick trip to the new skatepark in Spring, Texas.

North Houston Skate Park – Houston, TX

What an incredible park, it has something for everyone. There are several bowls of various shapes and difficulties, several snake runs a full pipe and street area.

We got there just after it opened and there were already quite a few people there, but because of the size, the park still seemed empty.

If you haven’t had a chance to make it to this park yet, I encourage you to make the trip, it is well worth it.

Lamar Digital Media

Clarie has decided to try out of the digital media program at Lamar Middle School. As part of the audition she needed to submit some examples of Digital Media she has worked on.

A skate story we did as a crew.

This is a cool claymation video Clarie made with some help from her friends. She has been into Mad Magazine lately, so this is a play on spy versus spy.

Cottonwood Shores 04-Jan-2015

CWS2

On Sunday the girls and I decided to go to Cottonwood Shores. The winter break kept the Austin parks packed with skaters and I had hoped Cottonwood Shores would be less crowded. That decision paid off. When we arrived there were only about 5 other people there and they left not too long after we arrived. I had hoped it would be a closer drive, it took over an hour to get there, but it is a real fun park.
